  • Cebu Action Plan: This plan was launched this past week at the APEC Finance Ministers 22nd Meeting. The 'Roadmap' for this plan consists of four pillars: 1) Promoting financial integration; 2) Advancing fiscal reforms and transparency; 3) Enhancing financial resiliency; and 4) Accelerating infrastructure development and financing. Pillar 3 entails the development of innovative disaster risk financing and insurance mechanisms including microinsurance. Read more here.  
  • Africa Micro-Pension and Retirement Planning Summit 2015: An important topic for this period of global aging, especially in the African region. The theme is "Rethinking Retirement Planning - towards a sustainable micro-pension". The event will take place 19 - 20 November, 2015 in Nairobi, Kenya.

    A new case study from Accion on the impact of Digital Finance tools. These learnings are very much applicable to the world of microinsurance. Just change the words loan application to insurance application, credit-decision to underwriting decision, loan officer to insurance agent and there you have it:
  •  Why are Chinese cities flooding?
    This short one from The Economist from early August mentions 3 factors that have an impact on flood severity and their consequences in China: urbanization rate, urban planning and climate change. These factors are important to take into account when we trend data to assess costs of insurance cover but also reinforces the fact that insurance should be considered in a broader framework of public goods, urban planning and risk management.
